Project Overview

As the 100th anniversary of the 19th amendment looms near, the Alice Paul Institute commissioned the NJ Women Vote 2020 initiative. Through this campaign, they hope to celebrate the passage of women’s rights while acknowledging its inequities. Inspiration for the logo originated from a 1913 issue of The Suffragette which details a woman in flowing robes, holding a shining key to freedom in her hand, reminiscent of the Statue of Liberty. Not only is this famous statue an important symbol for New Jersey, but also all of America, as she confidently lights the way to freedom and equality. This strong woman figure represents everything the Alice Paul Institute embodies - enlightenment, hope, and freedom from those who oppress. The fire in the torch also stands for progress,
wisdom, and knowledge.
